June 18th Bees
Judy spotted that there seemed to be a lot more bees in the hive than there had been previously, so we checked them in case they were about to swarm. Steve came to help us out. He told us that they would have swarmed within days, and we would probably have lost them. Lucky someone was paying attention…
We solved the problem by splitting the hive into two, which also gave us the opportunity to have a look at how things were going. There was plenty of brood on the frames, we found sealed queen cells, and there were drones, which will be needed for mating with the new queen. We left two queen cells in each of the hives, so that each hive will have a queen.
