June – July Pond
Lots going on in the pond world. Originally we were going to put in a pond at the farm, but after we heard the news that the land was needed for development and we would have to move, we put our plans on hold. We have now decided that a pond would be nice in the Poundbury orchard. We have also had a couple of grants to get a pond liner, so we need to get going with it.
The Whitfield folk dug us out a nice pond – huge amount of effort hacking away at the chalk and flint!

We then concluded that perhaps the sides were a bit steep and there wasn’t enough shelving, so Jenny and Kate had a go at reshaping, but it was such hard work that they didn’t really make a significant impression on the iron hard earth… Then Murray and Len took over and things really progressed.
That’s more like it! Look at those lovely concentric terraces, nice gentle slope down to the deep bit! We now have a pond liner, so we are all set to continue. Start packing your bags, newts!
